JOE PISCOPO TO SPEAK AT CENTO AMICI SPRING DINNER IN WARREN, NJ

April 4, 2016 -

Warren, NJ Joe Piscopo will welcome Cento Amici’s 201516 scholarship recipients at the organization’s annual Spring Dinner on Monday, April 4, 2016, at Alfie’s Ristorante in Warren, NJ.

“Once you get out of school, life can be fast and furious, but can also be a lot of fun,” said Piscopo, who said he will reflect on lessons he has learned throughout his life and career. “You need to be passionate about what you do and bring it full circle. It’s important that you can give something back to the community to those coming up behind you.”

Piscopo is a member of Cento Amici, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for scholarships in New Jersey. The evening’s honored guests will be this year’s Cento Amici scholarship recipients from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Montclair State University, Raritan Valley Community College, Union County College, Roselle Catholic, St. Anthony High School and St. Peter’s Prep.

“I admire the accomplishments of the Cento Amici scholarship recipients,” said Piscopo. “I was not a good student! But, when I was about 13 years old, I was passionate about playing the drums and my parents supported me. I learned that following your passion, honing in on your skills and having fun is an important part of life.”

“Joe’s story is inspirational, and I’m sure will resonate well with the students,” said Robert Zito, the founder and president of Cento Amici. “For me, the opportunity to meet the scholarship recipients is always the highlight of the year. They are great young people who we are privileged to have the opportunity to support.”

Piscopo currently hosts “Piscopo In The Morning” one of the most listened to morning radio talk shows in the New York/New Jersey market airing live on AM 970 The Answer weekdays from 6-9 a.m.

Widely known for his work on “Saturday Night Live,” Piscopo is also accomplished in film, theater, voiceovers, nightclub performances, network television and HBO specials. A New Jersey native, born in Passaic, he is also known as Jersey Joe. He currently resides in Tewskbury, NJ. He has five children and was twice named Father of the Year by The National Father’s Day Council and The New Jersey Council of Children’s Rights.

Piscopo is one of five Cento Amici members in the New Jersey Hall of Fame and is also active in philanthropic work, particularly in New Jersey. He has performed concerts for the NJ National Guard and the NJ WWII Memorial. He is spokesperson for The Boys and Girls Clubs of New Jersey where he received the Community Service Award in New Jersey and Broward County, Florida. He was named Volunteer of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County. Additionally, Piscopo received the Commendation Medal, the highest civilian award from the state of New Jersey, for his support of the U.S. military forces. He is a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and was recognized by Boy’s Town of Italy in Rome.

Cento Amici is a communitybased, member organization dedicated to providing needbased scholarship assistance to qualified students in New Jersey. Its mission is to enhance the educational opportunities for those who need it most and who are most underserved by existing need-based programs.
